Salvaged trees, yarn, paint, chain, scrim, lights, ductwork, shadow

Salvaged trees from a flooded New Orleans neighborhood are inverted and suspended from the ceiling by their trunks. Attached to and “growing from” the bare branches and twigs are hundreds of crocheted tendrils which cascade over the floor beneath. Suspended in their own darkened room, spotlights are trained down on the bare trees casting shadows.

The trees emerge through a false ceiling, above which a tangle of recycled ductwork hovers ominously.
